Moving into a newly constructed or renovated home? Post-construction cleaning is a different beast entirely. Here is the complete checklist.
Post-construction cleaning is arguably the most intensive cleaning task a home will ever need. Fine dust settles everywhere — inside light fixtures, on top of door frames, inside AC units, behind switches. Paint splatters, cement residue, and adhesive marks add to the challenge.
The 5-phase checklist
Phase 1 — Debris removal
- Remove all construction debris, leftover materials, packaging
- Sweep all rooms, including closets
Phase 2 — Dust removal (critical)
- Wipe all ceilings, walls, and cornices
- Clean inside electrical boxes and switch plates
- Dust all window frames, sills, and tracks
- Clean AC grilles and fan blades
Phase 3 — Surface cleaning
- Scrub floor tiles and remove grout haze
- Clean all kitchen cabinets inside and outside
- Remove paint spots from tiles, glass, and fixtures
Phase 4 — Fixture polishing
- Polish taps, showers, and bathroom fixtures
- Clean mirror surfaces
- Wipe door handles and hinges
Phase 5 — Final inspection
- Check all rooms for missed spots in natural light
- Mop all floors with a disinfectant solution
- Wipe glass windows and doors streak-free
